Apocalypse - Evil Shelter System

Chapter 385 Advanced Zombies

"If we can't survive, I don't want to owe you anything."

Bell smiled gently. "Alright, let's not talk about this now. Hurry and eat. After the meal, I'll see you off."

Alex didn't refuse Bell's hospitality and began to eat slowly. He knew very well that he couldn't always protect Bell, so the sooner they parted ways, the better it would be for both of them.

Soon, they finished their meals. After eating and drinking his fill, Alex patted his stomach and looked at Bell. "Bell, I'll carry you up."

"No need!" Bell shook her head slightly. "I can walk by myself." She twisted her neck to show she wasn't hurt.

"Be careful!" Seeing this, Alex didn't insist and just reached out to support Bell's arm.

Bell didn't resist. Her delicate face remained calm, as if nothing could stir her inner peace.

"Whooo—" Just as Alex was helping Bell into the car, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded from the convoy.

Then, seven cars drove in from all directions, blocking Alex's retreat.

"Whooo—" Another whistle sounded.

The previously silent group of zombies instantly became frenzied, howling like hungry wolves. Mutated zombies emerged from various patches of weeds, clawing towards Alex and his group.

Alex's face changed dramatically, and he shouted, "Bell, get down!"

He instinctively let go of Bell. Bell's face also changed dramatically, and she didn't care about the pain as she leaped to the ground.

The spot where she had been sitting was immediately overrun by a swarm of zombies. Almost simultaneously, Alex grabbed his two companions and flung them forward.

They screamed as they were thrown more than ten meters away, toppling the attacking zombies.

"Roar—" The zombie onslaught momentarily halted.

Taking advantage of the gap, Alex picked up a gun from the ground and dashed into the vehicle. His movements were swift and agile, making it difficult for the zombies to catch him.

"Whoosh—"

A sharp whistle was heard, followed by a stone flying through the air, heading straight for Alex's head.

The stone's force was terrifying, and Alex felt the presence of death.

In the nick of time, Alex ducked to avoid it.

"Crack!"

The stone hit the seat, smashing it to pieces.

"Ah—"

Bell was so frightened that she almost fainted.

"Bell, cover your head, don't be scared."

Alex dropped his gun, pulled Bell to the other side of the car door, and used his body to shield her from the danger.

"Alex, what are you doing?"

Bell complained through her trembling, "Just save yourself…"

Alex didn't respond, gripping Bell's hand tightly instead.

His eyes were scanning the outside, looking for a chance to break through.

"Whooo—"

Before Bell could react, countless zombies swarmed in, scrambling to tear at their prey.

"Bang bang bang!"

Seeing more and more zombies, and the car window starting to crack, Alex knew he couldn't waste any more time.

He picked up his gun and continuously pulled the trigger.

Bullets flew out one after another.

"Bang bang bang—"

After a dozen bullets were fired, three zombies in the front row had their heads blown off.

But the delay allowed even more zombies to surge forward.

Moreover, these zombies were larger and faster than normal ones.

Bullets had no effect on them, and a few even crashed into Alex, knocking him over.

"Damn it!"

Alex cursed under his breath, then drew his dagger and stabbed it into a zombie's throat.

The sharp blade sliced through the zombie's throat, spraying hot blood.

The zombie fell to the ground with a wail.

"Bang—"

As Alex was about to reload, he noticed the zombie horde was only five meters away. He pressed the trigger and fired off the remaining bullets.

The zombie's body jerked violently, then lunged at Alex again.

Alex's face turned grim; there were just too many of them.

At this rate, they'd be devoured clean sooner or later.

"Whooo—"

At that moment, Alex's ears twitched slightly; he seemed to hear something crawling.

Instinctively, Alex turned his head, his gaze sweeping past a patch of weeds three meters away.

Two eerie green eyes peered out from there.

Alex's pupils contracted sharply, a flash of cold light in his eyes.

"Thud!"

Before Alex could react, two poisoned needles shot out, piercing his shoulder and collarbone.

A wave of numbness spread, leaving Alex's body stiff and immobile.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Then, two more zombies leaped out.

Blood dripped from their mouths, their eyes filled with ferocity as they pounced on Alex, jaws wide open.

"Roar—"

Alex roared, sweeping his right leg to kick the two zombies hard in their chests.

"Thump thump!"

Two muffled sounds echoed as the zombies fell back, blood spraying from their mouths.

They struggled a bit before losing all signs of life.

Just as Alex was about to catch his breath, he suddenly felt his left leg go weak, and he fell to the ground.

"Whooo—whooo—"

At the same time, the horde of zombies, smelling blood, surged madly toward Alex.

"Damn it, I'll fight you to the death!"

Alex shouted angrily, gripping his dagger, ready to battle.

"Whooo—"

Just then, a piercing horn sounded again.

"Whooo—whooo—whooo—"

Hearing the horn, the zombies stopped approaching, dropping to the ground in apparent fear of the sound.

But soon, the zombies stood up again, continuing to surround Alex.

Alex frowned slightly. Why did it seem like the horn was giving orders?

Bell shouted, "Alex, run! The zombies are being controlled by the horn."

Alex was momentarily stunned, then let out a bitter smile. He hadn't considered that possibility. He regretted not figuring out who was behind the horn and what their intentions were.

But there was no time to dwell on it. Seeing the approaching zombies, Alex shouted, "Go!"

Bell struggled to move, clambering into the vehicle, desperately protecting the child in her arms and praying for their safe escape with her eyes tightly shut.

Alex swung his dagger to fend off the zombies, but he quickly realized, to his dismay, that the numbness in his arm and neck was intensifying.

Finally, his hands slipped, the dagger fell to the ground, and he collapsed, swaying as he went down.

Bell opened her eyes in panic. "Alex!"

"Boom!"

At that moment, a thunderclap echoed through the sky.

Bell looked up in a daze, seeing dark clouds spreading overhead like the wings of a demon.

"Crack—"

In the next second, lightning snaked across the sky.

"Boom—"

With a deafening roar, large raindrops began to pour down, splashing on everyone.

The previously restless zombies suddenly became as docile as lambs, crouching on the ground, letting the rain drench them.

Alex shivered, feeling the imminent threat of death.

Unfortunately, he couldn't stand up anymore and could only watch the rainstorm rage.

"Boom—"

Another thunderclap, lightning struck the horde of zombies like a dragon, filling the air with the scent of burning flesh.

A dozen zombies lay in pools of blood. The remaining zombies twitched slightly, seemingly in pain, but none dared to lift their heads, as if facing a natural enemy.

"Whooo—"

Through the pouring rain, a group of black-clad figures slowly approached. At the forefront was a man wearing a mask, with dark skin and a long sword strapped to his back, exuding an overwhelming presence. He also carried a sniper rifle on his back. The twenty-plus men behind him were dressed in hazmat suits, helmets, and boots, wielding shields and steel rods to guard the perimeter.

Each exuded a strong scent of gunpowder, clearly seasoned warriors.

"Whooo—"

Under Bell and the others' astonished gaze, the black-clad group halted and then slowly turned to face them.

"Alex, long time no see." The masked man glared at Alex with a cold smile, his eyes filled with killing intent.

"?"

Seeing the black-clad man, Alex was a bit surprised. Though Cuthbert wore a mask covering most of his face, Alex instantly recognized him. How did he track them here?

"Alex, I told you, we would meet again." Cuthbert looked at Alex with a faint smile, "Tonight, I will bury you."

Alex shouted, "Stop talking and get it over with!"

"Kill him!" Cuthbert commanded.

The black-clad men shouted in unison, "Kill!" They then swarmed forward, raising their weapons to stab Alex.

"Thud—"

Alex bit his tongue to jolt his nerves, regaining some strength, then swung his blade, cutting down seven or eight black-clad men. Blood splattered everywhere!

Bell seized the moment to pick up a dagger, gritting her teeth against the pain, and decapitated a zombie with one stroke...

"Whooo—"

Seeing their comrades slain, the zombies grew even more enraged, howling as they surrounded them. They clawed and bit like bloodthirsty beasts.

"Bang bang bang!"

But Cuthbert and his men were fearless, supporting each other and bravely fighting the enemy with their weapons.

"Thud—"

Alex had just killed a zombie when he took a stab to the abdomen, nearly dropping to his knees.

[Ding, system upgrade complete. Please continue killing zombies to quickly accumulate apocalypse coins.]

The system's voice sounded again. Alex wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

He tried to muster his strength, doing his best not to faint, so he wouldn't be a burden to Bell.

Bell looked at Alex worriedly and asked, "Alex, are you alright?"

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

Alex took a deep breath. "Take care of yourself."

"Whooo—"

As they spoke, zombies charged forward again.

Bell pulled her son close, pressing him against the driver's seat. She protected her son with one arm while fending off zombies with a dagger.

She kept swinging, the dagger slashing, killing many zombies, but also allowing them to get closer.

"Thud—"

While Bell was busy, a zombie suddenly lunged from the side, its sharp fangs aiming for her throat.

"Watch out!"

Alex shouted and rolled over, placing himself in front of Bell.

"Thud!"

The zombie's fangs sank into Alex's shoulder blade.

The intense pain made him grunt, but he stood firm, shielding Bell.

"Alex!"

Seeing Alex take the hit for her, Bell was shocked. She instinctively tried to push Alex away, but he grabbed her arm. "Don't move!"

Then, he drove his dagger into the zombie's head.

The zombie screeched and fell to the ground.

"Thud!"

Alex pulled out the bloodied dagger and swung it again.

"Thud!"

Another zombie fell.
