Act 5: Chapter 29: Black Reaper(Side: Lovis)

When Kanata was heading toward Greed's mansion, another group of people had already infiltrated into the mansion.

A group of trio encamped the central plaza.

「《CLOD MINE》!」

A man wearing goggles fired exploding clod toward Golem with his magic.

Though the golem blocked those clods with both of their arms, such action blocked their field of view for a moment, and a woman in a kimono used that gap to close in toward that golem.

She unleashed a slash with her katana, sending the golem flying and crashing into the wall.

After confirming that the golem had stopped functioning, the woman in the kimono returned her katana back into its' sheath.

「I see… It's definitely quite a splendid tool for a toy of the riches. Lovis-sama's choice is spot on again.」

Muttered the woman in Kimono… Yozakura.

「Fufufu, it'll be boring if this is all he got. For those in power, the best weapons are usually used to protect themselves. Let's go to that Great Merchant immediately.」

Said Lovis as he licked his lips.

The wreckage of five mithril golems scattered around him.

「I-Impossible… It can't be, the Mithril golem are…!」

「How can it be, Lovis the Reaper is supposed to be dead right!? Why he's still alive!?」

Greed's lackey ran in a hurry the moment they saw Lovis.

「The small fry has come huh? The Great Merchant… Doesn't seem too bad I guess. He even prepared such a grand stage for me. Well, there is no way he really thinks that those puppets are enough to defeat the kingdom right? Spare me from the boring stalling tactic.」

Lovis stopped right before he ran up to the stairs.

「Oh my…」

Yozakura brandished her katana.

The lump of huge debris that was thrown toward Lovis was bisected in mid-air.

「Boring. Why bother using a surprise attack?」

「Kahahaha, that's a greeting from me. Not that a criminal like you needs a polite greeting, ain'tcha? Do you expect me to bow my head first and say good day?」

The other party was a man with hair that meshes between gold and black.

The man looked like a delinquent, pair of canine teeth peeked from his lips.

There was a great sword strapped on his back.

「He seems to know you, Lovis-sama but his tone… It pisses me off.」

She glared at the man who just made his appearance, her hand touching the grip of his sword.

Lovis stopped moving.

「Chill out, Yozakura. This isn't enough to piss me off.」

「But, Lovis-sama, that man is… Insulting us.」

「Ain't that like the best greeting out there?」

「But…」

Yozakura looked at Lovis' face, trembling on her own.

The reason being the eerie smile on Lovis' face, stared at the man who just appeared like snake sizing up his prey.

「That arrogant speech and attitude… And his unwillingness to back down is something familiar to me. He is an S-Rank adventurer for sure… Otherworlder, Mitsuru Ijyuin. I've never expected to meet a strong person. I heard that his level is over 200… Truly one of the strongest among normal humans.」

「T-THAT GUY IS MITSURU IJYUIN!? TO THINK THAT WE BUMP UP ON HIM IN THE GREAT MERCHANT'S MANSION!」

Damia gasped the moment he heard that name.

「Hah, I'm honoured that you know about my name, not that I'm going to play a nice guy with a filthy criminal like you. To think that such a perfect target appeared right when I needed a target to test the new skill that I learnt from that lizard uncle in Peach Dragon Village. At this point, I do care not whether you're working out for Greed or not, I'm going to kill both of you anyway.」

The man… Mitsuru Ijyuin hit his right fist onto the palm of his left hand.

「HAHAHAHA… SURE THING! MITSURU IJYUIN! YOU'RE JUST AS I EXPECTED! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU!」

Lovis readied his scythe while laughing maniacally.

「You're that kind of person eh? You're even crazier than the rumour. Level… A little over 180 huh? Just the right target for warming up before I kill that Great Merchant.」

Lovis' body swaying around and then suddenly closing in toward Mitsuru.

「Your eyes… It is something that even this great Lovis see for the first time. It's frigid, brutal eyes that can see through even the monster… Yet, it retained a trace of innocence for some reason…」

Yozakura gasped, troubled as she saw Lovis unleash madness that she had never seen before.

「… Ah, Lovis-sama.」

The same goes for Damia, both of them snapped out immediately and unconsciously called out to him.

「Don't disturb our fight… Damia, Yozakura. The reason I brought you with me is so that you can fend off the third party that going to disturb my fight in this kind of situation. I'll kill both of you if you dare to meddle with my fight. Mitsuru Ijyuin… Is my prey.」

「I've made a promise to that white-haired wo— I mean White Haired Goddess!」

「… Uhm?」

「Isn't that even more reason for not doing this? I mean, Mitsuru Ijyuin is supposed to be the kingdom's hero!」

Hearing that… Lovis who was about to go into a frenzied state suddenly recalled his chance of encountering Lunaire.

『But of course, I'm responsible as someone who set you free. If I heard you commit atrocity in some place, I'll take the responsibility and hunt you down myself. Don't forget about it.』

Lovis' shoulders twitched, and he stopped moving altogether.

「What's the matter, getting cold feet now?」

Mitsuru who had already readied his sword looked quizzically at Lovis.

「Uhm, well, it's not a big deal, well… Okay.」

「Damia… This is just barely within the range of self-protection… Right?」

Lovis' head turned around slowly, asking Damia.

「Well if I'm pushed to say… Then yes…」

「Well, the one to pick a fight first is me right!?」

「I'll leave that to your judgement, Lovis-sama… But, well, we will follow you till the end of the world!」

「…」

Lovis didn't say anything back upon hearing Damia's remark.
