Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 75 - The light of truth

"Stop!"

Urgent neural signals surged into Yang Yi's brain.

"Do you know what summoning a deity means?

It's far worse than death...

Humans, unprepared, appearing before a god, would spiral into endless madness, unable even to maintain their form!" warned the Brain Eater.

The exchange, though lengthy in words, was instant through neural signals, transmitted and understood in a flash.

But to the Brain Eater's surprise...Yang Yi ignored the warning, resolutely determined to use the Mother of Spiders' deity-summoning ritual.

It wasn't a bluff. Neural signals, being a deep-level exchange of consciousness, left no room for deception.

Yang Yi's intentions, clear and unwavering, were fully exposed to the Brain Eater.

He was serious.

The Brain Eater was horrified, regretting its decision to inhabit this lunatic's body.

It began bombarding Yang Yi with signals, trying to disrupt the ritual.

"You're insane! A heretic! A lunatic! You dare call me a monster? You're worse than a monster! Even monsters wouldn’t summon gods!"

Floods of signals — confusion, fear, shock, despair — assaulted Yang Yi’s mind, giving him a splitting headache.

It was like ten voices screaming in his head.

He’d had enough!

"Shut up!" Yang Yi severed the signal transmission.

"I'm perfectly calm! This is the only way to destroy you, you red-eyed freak!"

"Red-eyed... How do you know that? Did I ever tell you?" a puzzled signal came through.

Yang Yi retorted, "Does that need saying?"

Unwittingly, his thoughts transmitted along with the response, exposing everything to the Brain Eater.

The Brain Eater glimpsed a nightmare Yang Yi had experienced.

"You dreamed of this?"

"I didn’t say that!"

"You’ve seen other red-eyed beings?"

"No, I haven’t!"

"Suna...? Where is she now?"

"You piece of—!"

Yang Yi exploded with rage.

Not being able to hide a single thought, with every secret laid bare, felt like he was being stripped naked in public.

But Yang Yi quickly devised a countermeasure: stop thinking and ignore the incoming signals.

"Tell me where she is!"

"........."

"What’s your relationship with her?"

"........."

Yang Yi stayed silent, focusing on activating the ritual to summon the Mother of Spiders and eliminate the menace.

The Brain Eater detected his intent immediately.

"Stop! Let’s talk! I have no hostility now — you can feel it, can’t you?"

Indeed, Yang Yi felt no malice, only excitement, anticipation, and relief.

Emotions rarely lie unless one could deceive themselves.

The Brain Eater's actions further proved its sincerity:

The tendrils retreated from his body, and Yang Yi regained control almost instantly.

"What are you up to?"

Yang Yi was confused but stayed cautious, groping for a weapon hidden in his stomach pouch.

Yet his intention was immediately detected. Two tendrils restrained his hands tightly.

"Stop your aggressive behavior! I just want to talk!"

"But I can't see!"

"I’ll share my vision with you."

A strange visual signal came through — lines and contours without color, like radar-detected imagery processed into a coherent picture.

The tendrils released Yang Yi's hands, allowing him to stand.

"Where are you...?"

"Find somewhere to sit. My face hurts a lot right now, and I don't want to say anything."

Yang Yi frowned, his left shoulder pressed against a head, looking like a two-headed demon as he slowly walked towards the ruins and found a piece of wood to sit on.

On the other hand, the Brain Eater seemed to be capable of using magic.

Yang Yi couldn’t understand the complicated incantations, but he could feel that after a warm, water-like energy brush across the Brain Eater's cheek, her injuries quickly healed.

"I feel much better now." The Brain Eater looked at Yang Yi.

Yet to his senses, it was like looking at himself, a very strange feeling.

After all, he, and the Brain Eater shared vision.

Yang Yi took the opportunity to put on an eye mask and asked the Brain Eater what she wanted to say.

The exchange between the two heads officially began, and the Brain Eater’s words became more refined.

"Hello, Mr. Yang Yi! You may call me Miss Ronette. As you might have guessed, I am indeed a witch, blessed with both beauty and intelligence..."

She began to explain her identity.

Not long before, she was just an ordinary witch, exceptionally beautiful and intelligent. She kept a low profile, enjoying her research in quiet corners.

But her good days didn't last. She was discovered by the Holy Knights, labelled as a heretic, and captured to be taken to the Holy City for judgment by the Holy Light.

"I definitely know who betrayed me, it must be that Peter! He begged me to heal his blindness so he could see his new bride. I agreed and replaced his corrupted eyeballs with those of a healthy Cyclops! The surgery was a success, and before he left, he even thanked me!" Miss Ronette spoke with indignation.

"Not even half a month later, the Holy Knights arrived! Luckily, I was prepared and turned myself into the Brain Eater. This way, even if I only had a head left, I could still move! Otherwise, once I leave the Holy Chest, I would immediately die..."

"The Holy Chest?"

"Yes! The Holy Chest is a prison tool used by the Radiant Holy Church to store the heads of heretics. Each chest is uniquely numbered and marked with a sacred seal.

Whenever the Holy Knights capture a heretic, they use a divine spell called the Holy Severance to decapitate them. This Holy Severance is an extremely evil spell that doesn’t kill immediately after decapitation!

Then they store the head of the heretic in the Holy Chest and send it to the Holy City. As long as the sinner doesn’t leave the Holy Chest, they won’t truly die... This cruel method is unheard of!" Miss Ronette recounted the brutality of the Holy Knights.

But Yang Yi remained unmoved.

He thought that witches weren't much better...both were equally vile.

His thoughts were quickly understood by Miss Ronette.

"You have a deep misunderstanding of witches! In fact, compared to witches, I prefer to be called a scholar!"

Miss Ronette revealed a wealth of hidden information to Yang Yi.

"People always say we are forbidden beings, accusing us of desecrating the dead and playing with life. But those are misunderstandings and prejudices!

In reality, we are the true guardians of this world, its only hope! The taboo research that violates human morals is just the growing pains of exploring the truth!

As long as we persist, we will eventually ignite the light of truth again! We will make all hidden existences retreat into the shadows, never daring to reveal themselves in the light of truth! We will do it! We will succeed!"

"Because the light of truth has always existed and will always exist!" Miss Ronette's face became fervent; it was a kind of faith.

Unlike the faith in deities, what they believed in...was the truth, the principle of all things!

In her excitement, her eyes had opened, but there were no eyeballs inside, only burn marks where flames had seared them.

It looked like someone had used hot tongs to tear her eyes out.

"What exactly are you trying to express?" Yang Yi asked. "It can't just be that you're bored from being locked up and want someone to talk to, right?"

"No," Ronette shook her head. "I originally planned to infiltrate the Radiant Holy Church, to see if I could find and save another witch or warlock. But now...it seems unnecessary."

She looked at Yang Yi with her hollow eye sockets.

"In front of me, there is a witch who can inherit everything of mine."

She used her tendrils to rummage through her mouth, pulling out a red gem covered in purple mucus, handing it to Yang Yi.

"This is the Stone of Truth; it contains the knowledge of countless generations of our efforts! Though I’m very intelligent, it still wasn’t enough, and I could only inherit a portion of it!

If someone with higher talent were to inherit it, they would directly access the truth and understand the reality of this world! I am no longer capable for I will soon die, but the inheritance of truth must not be severed..."

Yang Yi took the Stone of Truth and received its information.

【Name: Stone of Truth】

【Type: Relic】

【Quality: ??】

【Description: Swallowing this stone grants vast forbidden knowledge, but if one cannot bear it, it will lead to brain death. Not recommended for anyone outside of witches or warlocks. If given to the Radiant Holy Church, you will gain immense honour!

After reading it, he understood what she meant: she wanted him to give this stone to Suna.

"Why do you think I would do as you say?" Yang Yi asked, confused.

"You will!" Miss Ronette replied firmly, but Yang Yi could not agree.

"How do you view the abyss monsters?"

Ronette suddenly asked a strange question.

"I believe that only the dead abyss monsters are good abyss monsters!" Yang Yi responded.

"Very good, I hope you remember that!"

Ronette was satisfied with his reply and smiled.

She somehow pulled out a wine bottle, used her tendrils to remove the cap, then poured two glasses of wine with a dusty measuring cylinder.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Here, have a drink with me." She handed one of the glasses to Yang Yi.

"I don’t drink!" Yang Yi refused.

Before the crossover, Yang Yi had a weak body and had never drunk alcohol.

"Make an exception, it’s just this one glass!"

Ronette was insistent, pressing the measuring cylinder to his lips with her tendrils.

"After you finish, I’d like you to fulfill your promise...kill me!"
