Infinite Potential System

Chapter 438 Ascending, Janus?

Strand after strand of Spirit Qi was sent towards William's Cultivation Base, pushing him closer and closer to the very peak of the Tribulation Transcendence Realm.

"Bzzz!"

The entire World hummed and vibrated, a massive Ascension Portal more than four times the usual size appearing in the air above William. When his Cultivation was just one Spirit Qi away from breaking through to the next Realm, the Portal grew once more.

But this portal was simply meant for those who Ascended through Cultivation. It didn't apply to Body or Soul Cultivators.

I guess the only thing to do now is let go. William thought as he recalled his Seal Element and stopped resisting the condensation of his Soul.

"Crack!" spiderweb cracks appeared all around William as the full strength of his body was released in the Mortal World. The cracks spread and expanded for many kilometers, stretching outward for twenty, fifty, then even a hundred kilometers in every direction.

-Your body has greatly exceeded the limits of the World. Entering the Body Forming Realm...

William's body underwent a qualitative change all the way down to the cellular level, transforming every aspect of himself into a more powerful version that could better contain the overwhelming amount of energy that he exuded.

It was much like how Cultivation breakthroughs would improve all aspects of a Cultivator, except this one targeted only the body and was much stronger than your usual breakthrough. Nothing changed about William's appearance, but he could tell at a glance that his physical strength had improved hundreds of times, maybe even thousands.

He waved his hand, and the cracked fabric of the World shattered like glass, becoming a domino effect that wiped the Providence Zone off the map. If one were to visit this location in the future, it would not be called "Providence Zone", but instead be regarded as a region of death and destruction.

In place of the fabric of the World, a massive void appeared, darker and more mysterious than even the Chaos Element. William wanted to use the Seal Element again to limit the damage and stop its spread, but the System stopped him.

-Don't restrict yourself. This damage will heal with time when you leave.

There was no time to think about the System's words since William's soul fully condensed at that exact moment. The pain that William had been suppressing for years dissipated in an instant, replaced by the most relaxing sensation that almost made him fall asleep despite his Sleep Resistance Talent.

-Your Soul has greatly exceeded the limits of the World. Your Sea of Consciousness has formed.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Ahh..." William released a long breath while his body was automatically elevated towards the now eighty-kilometer-wide Ascension Portal. Finally, William channeled the last strand of Spirit Qi, elevating his Cultivation to the next Realm just as he passed through the Ascension Portal.

Enjoy new tales from empire

-You have entered the Ascension Realm.

The interior of the Ascension Portal was unlike anything William had ever seen. When he sent his Array Puppets to follow Riyald through before, he only saw dozens of colorful lights before the transition ended.

This time, however, William saw much, much more than that. He wasn't sure if it was his X-Rank Vision Talent, his impressive Soul Strength, his Ascension Realm Cultivation, or something else, but William could see not only the interior of the wormhole-like portal, but also what was beyond it.

The portal wasn't solid like the Wall of Laws that surrounded Efretta. No, it was transparent, and incredibly beautiful. Beyond the transparent portal were thousands of Worlds, each unique in their own way.

His body traveled for what felt like days, granting him plenty of time to inspect them one by one.

Frozen Worlds, devoid of any life and plentiful in Ice Mana. The temperatures were so low that William's Cold Resistance Talent might have trouble dealing with it alone, but there seemed to be a natural treasure buried deep within the ice.

Stars, condensed entirely of Light and Fire Mana, with a hint of Gravity holding everything together. If their brightness didn't blind you, the ambient heat would melt you into a puddle.

Foreign human Worlds, packed with cities and megastructures even more grand than the Hillvire Empire's Capital. The Mana density on this World was lower than normal, and there were strict regulations that forbade Cultivation without a permit.

An interesting rule, but it makes sense. I suppose they act like environmentalists with Mana.

He looked at the opposite side of the portal, where vast expanses of void were dotted with hundreds of Worlds more. These were the most fantastical ones of all, and many defied his current understanding of Magic and Cultivation.

Two identical Worlds revolved around each other at great speed, a third passing through them as if it didn't exist. It was more profound than the Illusion Element's Territory, and the scale was much larger too.

Next to them, a perfectly flat World with a circular shape spun like a coin on a table. At first glance, one might not even realize this World was flat, but it truly was. There were no humans here, but in between spins William noticed one nearly identical Magical Beast on each side.

The World stopped spinning suddenly, one of the Magical Beasts locking eyes with William from probably millions of kilometers away. Its figure reminded William of a centaur, but its face seemed sculpted from red clay.

The only difference between this one and the other was that the one looking at William had a pair of curved horns that poked into its own ears, while the other had no horns at all.

An ancient voice entered William's mind.

Heads or Tails. Choose or die.

William knew at a glance that it was the Magical Beast talking.

System?

-It can hear your thoughts. Choose one, I can't help you.

Who are you? William asked first.

We have no name, but some call us Janus.

Janus? Like the Roman God of Duality and many other things? The Magical Beast's behavior instantly made some sense to William.

Alright, heads.

William didn't know what the correct answer was, but he was an unlucky person and the usual him would choose tails. Therefore, he did the opposite of what he would have done.

The World spun once more, around and around at dozens of revolutions per second, then suddenly went from full speed to completely still in an instant. When it stopped, the opposite Magical Beast appeared in front of William, its demeanor the opposite of gentle.

Tails. Choose a punishment. Headless for a thousand years, weakness for a thousand years, or impotence for eternity.

When William heard his three options, he felt like he was about to cry. He had only peeked outside the portal, yet this happened.

-There's a fourth option. Why did they leave this out?

Hmm? William was confused.

-Request requires 100 million Potential Points. Yes/No?

William nodded his head to confirm the transaction.

-The fourth option is to choose to play again. If you do this, your punishment will be doubled if you lose, but you will be rewarded for choosing correctly. You have a chance.

William knew that this could very well result in disaster, but the System's explanation made him realize this wasn't entirely a game of chance.

I choose to play again! William shouted in his mind, surprising the two Magical Beasts. They didn't expect for this human to understand the rules of their game, much less find the fourth option that they left out long ago.

That said, they both smiled in unison. Very well, choose or die.

The Magical Beasts waited for a while, but William didn't respond.

Choose.

William still didn't respond, but the World started spinning on its own regardless. If he didn't choose before the World stopped spinning, he would probably lose.

William smiled as he activated his Fate Affinity to its fullest, allowing him to see just a few fractions of a second ahead of time. He watched closely as the World spun, then shouted loudly in his mind at the last possible moment.

TAILS!

The World stopped, and the Magical Beast with no horns was in front of William once more, its eyes wide in shock as it understood something.

Its expression returned to indifference as it spoke.

Tails. Your punishment has been nullified. Choose a reward.

William was confused. What are my options?

If it's within the limits of our power, we will grant it. If it is not, you will receive no reward. Genie rules apply.

William was left deep in thought. He didn't know how strong the two Magical Beasts were, but for them to have control over his next thousand years, they must have incredibly high potential.

That said... they probably had to follow some sort of rules, just like the System did. They might be strong, but they weren't free. They also mentioned Genie rules, usually meaning he couldn't request more requests or otherwise.

If he asked for something too simple, it would probably be granted without a second thought, but if he asked for something that violated their rules, his reward would be wasted. He needed to pick something related to the game they played.

I choose to profit! William suddenly said.

Profit? What do you mean? the two Magical Beasts spoke in unison.

William smiled. Whenever another plays your game and wins, I want a portion of the reward they choose!
