Book 2: Chapter 121: No such fate
Vol 2 Chapter 121 No such fate
"You're both married?" The Sourceborn Hall Master was stunned.
"Yes!" Luo Ruoxi and Luo Qiqi nodded simultaneously.
The Sourceborn Hall Master exchanged a glance with the Temporal Sage, and both frowned deeply.
Cultivation emphasizes four critical aspects: wealth, companions, techniques, and location. A teacher can provide three of these, but "companions" cannot be given—and this aspect is particularly vital.
Especially for individuals like them who have comprehended their own Heaven’s Fate. In the final competition of destinies, even the smallest change could become the straw that breaks the camel’s back. A powerful Dao companion can not only provide mutual support in critical moments but also exchange insights into cultivation, affirm one another's fates, and even merge destinies completely. In some cases, one partner's life could be preserved through the other's destiny, reshaping existence itself.
However, with their current talents and cultivation of only the Dharma Aspect Realm, even if their husbands were stronger, they might only be at the first or second level of the Star River Realm. Such strength, without a remarkable Heaven’s Fate, makes it almost impossible to reach the pinnacle of the world. From any perspective, their so-called husbands appeared to be nothing more than burdens.
"They're not worthy of you!" the Sourceborn Hall Master was the first to speak bluntly.
The Temporal Sage turned to Luo Qiqi and added, "You too. No matter who this person is, they're unworthy of someone with your talent."
"Unworthy?" Luo Ruoxi and Luo Qiqi exchanged a glance and broke into laughter.Their husband? No matter where he went, he stood at the very pinnacle of existence. If one were to discuss worthiness, others might view it as their high climb to reach him. Yet, here was the first time someone suggested otherwise!
"I'm stating facts!" the Sourceborn Hall Master insisted. "Where are they? Bring them to me, and I'll show them the gap between you and them. Let them understand the reality themselves and back away sensibly."
Luo Ruoxi turned her head. "Zhang Xuan, the Hall Master wants to see you!"
"Cough, cough!" Zhang Xuan stepped forward. "Greetings, Hall Master!"
"You’re her husband?" The Sourceborn Hall Master furrowed his brow and scrutinized the young man before him. A cultivation level only at the peak of the Dharma Aspect Realm—far inferior to someone like Yan San-shisan earlier. By all appearances, entirely mediocre.
"Where is your husband? Call him here too," the Temporal Sage said to Luo Qiqi.
Luo Qiqi likewise turned. "Teacher Zhang, the Sage wishes to meet you!"
Zhang Xuan scratched his head and clasped his hands. "Zhang Xuan greets the Temporal Sage."
"???" The Temporal Sage and the Sourceborn Hall Master were both dumbfounded.
The husbands of these two exceptional geniuses were... the same person? This guy... even if he had accumulated merits over eight thousand lifetimes, he still wasn't deserving!
Instantly, their expressions grew darker with anger. To monopolize even one of these remarkable women would be the fortune of a lifetime, yet here he was, claiming both. Shameless!
The Sourceborn Hall Master couldn't hold back any longer and fixed Zhang Xuan with a cold, oppressive gaze. "I'll give you two choices: first, I provide you with cultivation resources and a decent Heaven’s Fate, but you divorce them and never have anything to do with them again. Second, I destroy you completely, leaving no trace of your existence."
Zhang Xuan froze. "Are you saying that if I don't divorce them, you'll kill me?"
He had been watching the drama unfold, fully expecting his disciples to be taken away for the best cultivation opportunities. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that the focus would suddenly turn on him.
"You could put it that way," the Sourceborn Hall Master nodded.
Zhang Xuan looked helplessly at Luo Ruoxi and Luo Qiqi. "What do you think?"
"What else can we think?" Luo Ruoxi rolled her eyes. "Hall Master, if you believe my husband is unworthy of me, then you’re not qualified to be my teacher either. After all, I’m not exactly begging to be your student."
"Exactly," Luo Qiqi said firmly as she addressed the Temporal Sage. "If you want to harm Teacher Zhang, then I will fight to the death. Unless you kill me, I will not stop until I kill you."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Though the two women had different personalities and experiences, their feelings for Zhang Xuan were identical.
"This..." The Sourceborn Hall Master and the Temporal Sage exchanged looks, both frowning.
After waiting so long to find such Heaven’s Fate prodigies, losing them over this would be a tremendous loss.
"Very well, then let us speak to Zhang Xuan alone," the Temporal Sage decided. With a wave of his hand, the surrounding space twisted and rotated. Though Zhang Xuan could still see Luo Ruoxi and Luo Qiqi, they seemed completely out of reach, as if they had vanished from his perception.
It was as though he had entered a television screen, cut off from all outside connections.
Zhang Xuan's heart sank. This seamless manipulation of space was far beyond anything he had encountered before, suggesting the Temporal Sage's strength vastly exceeded even that of Ouyang Hai.
"You’ve seen our power," the Sourceborn Hall Master said, locking eyes with Zhang Xuan. His gaze flared with oppressive force, and Zhang Xuan felt a mountainous pressure bearing down on him.
Under this overwhelming force, his scalp tingled, and he felt like a lone boat in a storm, on the brink of capsizing. His spine bent under the pressure, about to snap.
A show of dominance.
The Hall Master clearly intended to teach him a lesson, hoping Zhang Xuan would back down and retreat.
Clenching his fists, Zhang Xuan's veins popped. Despite being a lord of a world and a teacher of countless generations, he found himself utterly outmatched before the pinnacle figures of the Source World. After all, Nie Yun had once nearly died to a palm strike from a similarly powerful figure.
"If she inherits my Heaven’s Fate, she will gain power equal to mine," the Sourceborn Hall Master said coldly, staring at Zhang Xuan’s strained expression. "Moreover, she could become the master of Destiny Hall, wielding unparalleled authority. A single word could send shockwaves across the continent. And you? After a lifetime of struggle, you might become a Hall Master in a minor dynasty or sect master of the Wanxiang Gate. You won't even be able to see her shadow."
"I..." Zhang Xuan tried to speak but found himself paralyzed by the immense power. His senses dulled, and he felt as though he no longer existed.
The Sourceborn Hall Master aimed to crush Zhang Xuan's resolve completely, erasing any thought of resistance.
"Becoming my disciple, she would inherit the Temporal Heaven’s Fate," the Temporal Sage added. "Though I have few disciples and no faction, this is one of the strongest Level-Two Heaven’s Fates. Once mastered, she would be unstoppable. And you? Can you endure decades, centuries of cultivation in solitude while she soars far ahead?"
"To cling to her despite this is to drag her down—it’s ungrateful and selfish."
Biting his lip, Zhang Xuan mobilized his inner strength to resist their oppressive aura. His journey—from the Master Teacher Continent to the Firmament and beyond—had been filled with countless challenges, but he had never yielded. This time would be no different.
As the forces within him surged, he activated the "Pathos of Heaven" Heaven’s Fate. Pure energy coursed through his meridians, easing the crushing pressure.
"The suppression isn’t from cultivation—it’s from fate." Zhang Xuan suddenly understood.
The disparity lay in their levels of destiny. Some are born with the world at their feet, needing no effort to rise to power, while others struggle their whole lives to reach even a fraction of such heights. This was the fundamental inequity of "fate."
But Zhang Xuan had faith. Though his Heaven’s Fate was weak now, with time, it could rival any other.
Slowly, his spine straightened, and his senses returned. "Ungrateful? If abandoning her were gratitude, that would be the truest ingratitude," Zhang Xuan said, his calm voice shattering the oppressive silence.
Both the Sourceborn Hall Master and the Temporal Sage were momentarily stunned. To not only withstand their Heaven’s Fate suppression but also respond—this was unprecedented.
But they quickly dismissed the thought. Compared to true geniuses—those who reached the Star River Realm at seven and its seventh level by twelve—Zhang Xuan was nothing.
"Even if you’re not ungrateful, so what?" the Temporal Sage sneered. "They only choose you now because they haven’t seen what true excellence looks like. Compared to that, your so-called talent is insignificant."
Zhang Xuan shook his head. "The future is uncertain. Who’s to say I won’t surpass those so-called geniuses?"
"Surpass?" The Sourceborn Hall Master laughed coldly. "You... lack the fate."
