Chapter 364 Silent Torture
Despite the courage of the two mages, they still can't help but feel apprehensive as life slowly leave their bodies. The thorns shedding their skin was painful but they are experienced people.
They can handle this level of pain and can withstand it. What they cannot endure is the slow approach of death.
As silence reigned inside the tent, the slow claws of death became even more apparent and the two couldn't help but shudder.
If this was what they were feeling now, the mage enclosed in the earth was feeling worse. He could feel the slowly increasing pressure on his bones as the earth encasing him was tightening.
Out of the three of them, if they all died, there was no doubt that he would be the one to die more miserably.
Meat. Meat.
The worst part was that the process was painfully slow. He knew what was to come yet it was approaching in a snail pace. The experience was unbearable and he was also the first one to give up.
"S-stop! I will talk! I will talk! Let me go!" The mage said with a hint of desperation.
"Y-you..." the other two wanted to say something but in the end, they kept their mouths shut. How can they be not aware of the silent torture that Rezen was effortlessly inflicting on them?
He doesn't have to do much to perform cruel torture. He even had the leisure to cultivate while their minds were falling apart. Aside from surrendering and cooperating with Rezen, what else can they do to free themselves from this torment?
Unfortunately, despite surrendering, Rezen ignored them. His eyes were still closed, continuing to ignore these people.
Seeing this, the mage that was slowly being crushed could not help but grit his teeth and he spoke again. "It's Quard! That bastard was the one that sent us here! Let us go!"
Upon hearing that name, Rezen was unsurprised. The petty bastard certainly has enough evil in his bones to order his death.
Out of everyone that Rezen knows, he was definitely the one with the most motive to do this kind of thing.
After all, the two of them are already irreconcilable enemies. Peace would only appear between them if one of them died.
With the talent and progress that Rezen was showing, it was impossible for Quard to not sense danger if Rezen were to become a mage stronger than even his ancestors, no doubt that death would await him.
As such, Rezen calmly accepted the identity of the perpetrator, not even a ripple appeared in his heart.
However, he remained silent. Not bothering to give the three assassins even the slightest bit of attention.
Even Belazark who was waiting for a good show became uninterested after seeing Rezen's indifference.
Its dilated pupils almost rolled at the back of his head. He cannot comprehend the reason why Rezen was not saying or doing anything and was just cultivating.
"Hiss... so boring!" Belazark complained and it once again merged with Rezen's shadow to sleep since nothing interesting was happening.
"Y-you... why are you not saying anything?" The mage asked but as usual, Rezen ignored them and silence once more reigned inside the tent.
"Ackk!!"
After some time, the mage inside the earth started coughing blood. The pressure his flesh, bones, and internal organs are experiencing is slowly reaching a critical point. His insides were a mess with his internal organs being squeezed.
This made him even more fearful and desperate.
"S-say something! W-what do you want! I already said who sent us! W-we are willing to testify! Please, let us go!" The mage pleaded but Rezen remained indifferent.
At this moment, the other two mages were already starting to feel muddleheaded due to the blood loss and they too gave up.
"P-please... stop this. W-we will help y-you. T-tell us w-what to do..."
"N-no more p-please... r-remove the vines... I am w-willing to do a-anything"
Rezen listened to the three become more desperate and when he felt that it was enough, he finally opened his eyes.
"Testify? Heh... do you think that's enough to convict that bastard? If that's the most you can do then just slowly wait for your death"
"While I cannot just kill a fellow mage considering the war that is happening, who said that I cannot retaliate against assassins and accidentally kill them to save myself?"
"Thank you for even helping me with this isolating barrier. Thanks to it, no one would know the real thing that happened inside. How can people know that I had the chance to immobilize you three without killing you but I still decided to go for the kill?"
Towards the end, Rezen even chuckled. "Now, unless you can give me substantial evidence, just be silent and accept your fate"
After saying his last piece, Rezen closed his eyes once more, resuming his cultivation. The three assassins looked at each other and it didn't take that long before one of them started singing.
Unsurprisingly, it was the mage being crushed by the earth. Indeed, out of the three of them, his death would be the most miserable. Naturally, he was the most willing to sell Quard out.
They deeply regret erecting the isolation barrier. Without it, they definitely wouldn't be subjected to such torture. The thing that they thought would benefit them was suddenly used against them to make them suffer.
At this point, they also started resenting Quard for giving them this task despite the fact that they accepted it due to their own greed.
After all, Quard's family was rich and this bastard has a lot of things he can use to bribe cultivators like them.
Help but grin inside him.

He doesn't really expect much from these three but turns out that they are quite cautious. They recorded the whole deal.
Rezen is sure that they didn't do it simply for fun. They must have done it in case they have to use it either when they fail so that they can drag Quard with them or use it for blackmailing.
These three can do an act such as assassination. If they can do such a thing, is it surprising that they can do other bad things? Of course not!
Who would have thought that Rezen's casual test would result in such a fantastic thing?
He was only expecting at least another piece of evidence that could make Quard look guilty but not fully convict him and it would be enough for him.
Even if he cannot send that bastard to the dangerous battlefields due to insufficient evidence, at the very least, with more evidence, he could plant the seed of doubt.
The animosity between them is no secret. Many people in the academy are aware of it. If Rezen was able to procure a bit of evidence of Quard trying to kill him, he could isolate him from everyone and also ruin his reputation.
Not to mention, the best part is if something bad were to really happen to Rezen, the prime suspect would undoubtedly be Quard. That would make that bastard's hands helplessly tied.
On one hand, he badly wants to kill Rezen to nip the bud of future trouble. On the other hand, if Rezen indeed died, he would become the primary suspect and even his family might not be able to save him.
After all, his family is only influential in the outer walls and is not much compared to the inner and core wall families.
Not to mention, in recent times, because of the war, the crime of killing a fellow mage has become even more severe.
Humanity is already experiencing a huge shortage of mages. How can they let their own people fight and kill each other? That is a shortcut for losing this war.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
In satisfaction, Rezen waved his hand and whether it be the vines or the rock, all of them vanished, finally freeing the tortured assassins who breathed a sigh of relief.
The experience of slowly walking to the path of death was really unbearable! They cannot take it!
They would rather die in one stroke than experience such a horrible thing again. It really traumatizes them.
Even when they are finally free again, they don't dare be cunning and attack Rezen. This man already showed his cruelty, if they were to continue to antagonize him then who would know what other kind of torture he would do to them?
They didn't dare! They really didn't dare!
What do you think?
