Chapter 662: Extra 075 Lei Qian, our relationship ends here (third update)

Xin Zaozao’s breath was a bit heavy.

Lei Qian was somewhat upset upon hearing Zaozao’s words.

She held onto Mu Cidian’s hand and said, “Let’s go. We are unwelcome here.”

She was reminding Mu Cidian of Xin Zaozao’s true attitude towards him.

Mu Cidian looked back.

He picked up his jacket from the sofa and left with Lei Qian.

As they reached the door.

Xin Zaozao suddenly said, “Mu Cidian, I hope you can take some self-respect.”

Mu Cidian paused.

Lei Qian turned around, looking at Xin Zaozao tensely.

“Please close the door on your way out.” Xin Zaozao was indifferent.

Lei Qian, hand in hand with Mu Cidian, left.

Neither of them had closed the door for her.

But she didn’t mind.

She got up and closed the hospital room door herself.

Once back in bed, her mind was still filled with Wan Quan’s face haunting her dreams.

The hideous face from her dreams.

She feared the memory of Wan Quan would never truly leave her!

Lei Qian’s pace quickened as she led Mu Cidian.

They left the hospital.

Mu Cidian sat on the passenger side of Lei Qian’s car.

Lei Qian was driving.

Both were silent.

Bordering a rarity, Mu Cidian initiated a conversation, “Why did we return?”

“To apologize to Xin Zaozao, who would have thought…” Lei Qian pursed her lips.

Mu Cidian nodded slightly.

“Cidian, can you keep your distance from Xin Zaozao? She looked down on you. Why do you still hang around her? Don’t you think you’re humiliating yourself? I can’t stand it anymore. I’m not just saying this because you like Zaozao. If Xin Zaozao liked you, I could have willingly stepped aside. But she doesn’t even like you, she keeps using her words to belittle you. You really shouldn’t care about her.”

Mu Cidian gazed out the window, not making a sound.

While driving, Lei Qian continued to express her anger, “If it weren’t for you, Xin Zaozao might have frozen by now, and yet she seems utterly ungrateful and keeps criticizing you. I get so angry whenever I think about Xin Zaozao’s attitude just now…”

“Stay focused on the road,” Mu Cidian cut her off, “We can talk about this when we get home.”

Lei Qian bit her lip.

Anytime she would badmouth Zaozao, or even mention her name, he would become cold and indifferent.

Swallowing her frustration, she drove bit faster.

Once they arrived home.

Mu Cidian and Lei Qian perched on the sofa.

By now, Lei Qian seemed to have composed herself, she soothingly offered, “You must be tired from following me home so early. Why don’t you rest for a while?”

Mu Cidian looked at Lei Qian.

Lei Qian managed a weak smile, “I was a bit carried away with anger earlier. I won’t get so extreme anymore.”

“Lei Qian,” Mu Cidian called her, his expression serious.

Lei Qian looked at him.

She had a premonition that he was about to say something she didn’t want to hear.

“I tried, but I couldn’t do it,” Mu Cidian told her, stressing each word.

Lei Qian stared at him.

What does he mean by ‘he tried’?

She didn’t want to hear it, she didn’t want to listen.

“I thought about completely letting go of Xin Zaozao, and trying to be with you. I tried to like you, but I couldn’t do it.”

“I don’t want to hear it, I don’t want to listen. I don’t care what you think, I just don’t really care…” Lei Qian was somewhat agitated.

“Lei Qian, listen to me.”

“I don’t want to listen…” Lei Qian’s eyes welled up with tears, “Please, I beg you not to say more.”

“Lei Qian.” Mu Cidian looked at her teary-eyed face and said, “I don’t want to keep you hanging any longer.”

“I don’t care.”

“But I do.” Mu Cidian stated clearly. “I care about my reputation—it’s not pure.”

“Mu Cidian, does marrying me make you impure?”

“At least to Xin Zaozao, it does.”

“Why? Why are you still treating her like this? Have you forgotten how your mother died? Aren’t you afraid that your mother can’t rest in peace by being with her like this?”

“My mother’s death has nothing to do with Xin Zaozao.”

“It was Xin Zaozao who told your aunt about her illness which led her to choose suicide in the end. Without Xin Zaozao, your aunt would not have died like that—so tragically!”

Mu Cidian frowned slightly. “I know exactly what Xin Zaozao is. The reason I’m not calling you out is that I don’t want to embarrass you.”

Lei Qian’s face changed. She stammered, “How can you, how can you trust Xin Zaozao so much?”

“I just know too well what kind of person my mother was.”

Lei Qian was devastated. “Why did you keep silent? Why did you force me to help cover the lie for your aunt? This is really embarrassing for me!”

Mu Cidian’s eyes tightened, and he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue. “Let’s end our relationship here. We’re all tired today. Let’s go through the divorce procedures tomorrow morning.”

“Cidian, even without your aunt involved, you and Xin Zaozao won’t work out. Even if you divorce me, Xin Zaozao won’t be with you. Xin Zaozao is pregnant with someone else’s child! She doesn’t even see…”

“That child is mine,” Mu Cidian announced.

He said it crystal clear.

Lei Qian was obviously startled at that moment.

She was so shocked she couldn’t talk for a long time.

“The child is over eight months now. Xin Zaozao was pregnant when my mother was critically ill. I didn’t have the ability to care for the baby then, and Xin Zaozao also explicitly told me that she had an abortion, so I chose to leave her. Not because I didn’t love her anymore, or that my heart had turned cold, but because I didn’t want to cause her further pain!” Mu Cidian explained.

“What about me? You’re trying to avoid hurting Xin Zaozao, so you proceed to hurt me?” Lei Qian said with her heart aching. “If you hadn’t given me these past few months of hope, I wouldn’t have thought we could be together. How could you do this to me? Doesn’t this hurt you?”

“Compared to what Xin Zaozao has been through, I can’t afford to feel hurt by any other woman.”

“Mu Cidian, you’re really cold-blooded,” Lei Qian’s eyes were red-rimmed. “Does all my effort towards you mean nothing?”

“It’s worth nothing.”

“Slap.” Lei Qian suddenly slapped Mu Cidian hard across the face.

Mu Cidian just took it.

After hitting Mu Cidian, Lei Qian ended up sobbing harder.

She said, “Mu Cidian, why did you give me hope and then disappoint me so much? Why are you treating me like this? What’s so good about Xin Zaozao? What’s so good about Xin Zaozao that just one look from her draws you back to her? What am I…What am I in your world!”

Mu Cidian watched Lei Qian crumble.

He admitted, her state right now made him hold back some.

He’d initially intended to leave Xin Zaozao completely, but he was moved by Lei Qian’s quiet loyalty. Being moved wasn’t the same as love, so he chose to provide her with hope while keeping their distance, hoping their feelings could grow organically. But just when he thought he could give up on Xin Zaozao, he found out that Xin Zaozao was pregnant with his child.

He wasn’t as calm inwardly as he appeared outwardly.

He even suffered from insomnia, his mind filled with images of Xin Zaozao with her swollen belly.

He couldn’t get rid of the images.

Yet, he still chose to remain aloof, enduring the torment within, remaining indifferent, believing that he could hold on.

But whenever Xin Zaozao was hurt slightly, he would completely collapse.

Who knew, maybe when he left Xin Zaozao, he was actually trying to hurt Xin Zaozao on purpose, hoping to get her to admit her love for him by letting himself fall into despair.

He didn’t know.

He knew one thing though: when it came to Xin Zaozao, logic had flown out the window.

If he had been a bit more rational, he wouldn’t have fallen in love with Xin Zaozao, wouldn’t have been helplessly infatuated with her.

“Cidian, don’t leave me. I beg you not to leave me!” Lei Qian suddenly rushed forward and hugged Mu Cidian.

She couldn’t accept it.

She genuinely couldn’t accept his departure.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

No matter what he did to her, she couldn’t let him go.

Mu Cidian pushed her away.

Pushed her away forcefully.

Lei Qian stumbled back a few steps.

Her heart pounded with pain. Looking at Mu Cidian, she demanded, “Do you know how cruel you really are?”

Mu Cidian’s throat contracted slightly.

He said:

It came out so coldly, “Except for Xin Zaozao, I don’t regard any woman with significance. I’m not a good person!”

From a young age, he knew he wasn’t a good person at all.

To anyone, anyone without value, he could be cold-blooded and ruthless.
