Rebirth of a Farming Wife

Chapter 526: 533: Lost Temper

Chapter 526: Chapter 533: Lost Temper

In truth, though Liu Xiu harbored suspicions about Han Yu, he was not a man who failed to understand the gravity of situations. Moreover, the time spent together recently, jointly resisting the oppression of the Imperial Court, had fostered a newfound trust between master and servant. Unfortunately, this trust was still too fragile, and coupled with the interference of schemers, Liu Xiu’s youthfulness and various considerations led him to underestimate the severity of the situation. Additionally, knowing how much Han Yu valued his daughter-in-law, Liu Xiu kept delaying calling the person back.

“Even so, some matters can be dealt with slowly and strategized over. If we lose Yiyang City because of this, it would be a loss that far outweighs the gain.” Sikong Ling understood the reasoning but did not entirely agree with Han Yu’s approach. In his opinion, other issues, even those involving a lack of trust, were far less significant than holding onto Yiyang City. If Yiyang City were lost, wouldn’t all of Han Yu’s arduous battles against Zhao Fan be in vain, especially since he went to the lengths of sending his wife and child away for the sake of safeguarding Yiyang City?

“To break and then to establish, losing Yiyang City might not necessarily be a bad thing,” Han Yu replied without elaborating further. There were some things he did not plan to fully disclose to Sikong Ling. Although they were currently allies, the future remained uncertain. This was, after all, an internal matter, and providing Sikong Ling with just a direction and enough information to decide his future actions was sufficient.

Sikong Ling felt a mix of surprise and admiration upon hearing Han Yu’s response. “I underestimated you. I didn’t expect you to have such determination. This is not an easy thing to do; one wrong step and you would have to start all over again.”

“If a house isn’t built on a solid foundation and something inside is broken, even if it shelters you temporarily, it will eventually collapse in strong winds or rains, possibly harming people. It’s better to tear it down and rebuild from scratch. Even if it costs more and requires more effort, it will stand firm without future worries,” Han Yu said, using a simple metaphor that was surprisingly vivid.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

“You’re right; most people understand this principle, but there are very few who truly have the courage to face their mistakes and start anew, especially when the house in question is already large. It takes extraordinary resolve,” Sikong Ling added thoughtfully, now fully realizing Han Yu’s plan. He wondered if he could have the same resolution in Han Yu’s position. Managing such a bothersome and risky affair, Sikong Ling would have chosen a less hazardous approach, slowly mending the weaknesses.

Sikong Ling thought that Han Yu’s rapid rise in power might stem from possessing a determination and courage beyond the ordinary.

Now that he knew Han Yu’s intentions, Sikong Ling no longer worried. Although risky, Han Yu must have had his reasons. Moreover, Sikong Ling suspected that Su Wenyue’s situation greatly influenced Han Yu’s decision. Known for his carefulness, and particularly protective of his wife and children, Han Yu’s preparations to ensure their safety must have been thorough. Otherwise, how could the subsequent incidents have occurred, if not for an insider’s betrayal?

“Since you’ve decided, I won’t say much more. If you need any help, just ask. After all, we’re still allies,” Sikong Ling offered his assistance, which was rare, given his social status and personality. This was mainly due to his admiration for Han Yu’s determination to make tough choices. He always felt that Han Yu was destined for greater achievements. Forming an alliance with him would undoubtedly benefit the Sikong Family, even though it was somewhat disappointing that Han Yu could not leave the Sikong Family’s domain.

Han Yu and Sikong Ling discussed other matters, both men being heroic figures. Although their personalities differed, many of their thoughts and ideas were closely aligned. Some perspectives Han Yu raised even sparked new thoughts in Sikong Ling, changes that would benefit the future development of the Sikong Family. If not for the issue with Su Wenyue, the two men might have become close friends.

Following their conversation, for reasons unknown, Sikong Ling relaxed many of the restrictions on Han Yu in Peach Blossom Valley. Less critical areas were opened to Han Yu, and occasionally, Sikong Ling would even invite him to sit down for tea and discuss opinions on affairs of the Imperial Court and the future outlook.

Naturally, Han Yu was pleased with this development, partly facilitated by his own efforts. The increased freedom made his movements more convenient. Regardless of the apparent state of things with Sikong Ling, Han Yu continued his private preparations, with the priority to take his wife away from Peach Blossom Valley. He was not naive enough to believe that Sikong Ling would willingly let his wife go so easily.

Calculating in his mind, with the Divine Doctor Mu’s help, his wife’s health was gradually improving. The Divine Doctor Mu even discovered a route out of Peach Blossom Valley from the Back Mountain. Once everything was ready, as long as the timing was right, Han Yu would be able to leave with his wife soon.

“Ugh, could you all be any more annoying? I keep saying I’m fine, that I want to get some fresh air in the courtyard, but you keep blocking me. What, are you trying to smother me to death?”

Han Yu had just entered the courtyard when he heard his daughter-in-law’s irritated voice, causing his scalp to prickle, and he hurried in. Perhaps due to the shocks and grievances of late and lying in bed for so long, his daughter-in-law had become somewhat petulant and unpredictable, even childlike. Yet, as per Divine Doctor Mu’s instructions, his daughter-in-law had caught a chill, which caused harmful cold to enter her body. It was best if she did not catch wind these days, and her chances of bearing children in the future might be slim.

Remembering the somber expression with which Divine Doctor Mu had spoken of this matter, Han Yu surmised the doctor suspected it was of great concern to him. Most men would wish for many sons and blessings. Yet, Han Yu himself was not particularly bothered by this; aside from already having two sons and a daughter, while he valued the continuation of his lineage, he would never consider it more important than his wife’s well-being. His greatest concern was her health, which was why he had confined her to the room, preventing her from going outside.

“What’s going on here? Daughter-in-law, before I left you promised you’d rest well in the room. Why have you come out? It rained yesterday; it’s still chilly outside. Hurry back inside before you catch a cold. Otherwise, Divine Doctor Mu might prescribe more medicine for you, and then don’t complain about having to drink bitter medicinal soup,” Han Yu said while carrying her back inside and placing her on the bed. After this ordeal, his wife had grown even more frail, feeling weightless in his arms.

Su Wenyue was a bit disheartened when she saw Han Yu. No matter how wild she became, Han Yu always managed to handle her. She had planned to enjoy some fresh air while Han Yu was out; she did not expect him to return so quickly.
