The Black Necromancer

Chapter 554: Touring The Capital

"That is absurd!" Martha exclaimed, her eyes wide as she listened to the stories of Eugene. He had told her all about what had happened after her passing years ago, and while she had initially scolded him for giving up Leon, she admitted that she would have done the same thing if put in his shoes. Their child was too important to risk in such a ruthless world.

But who would have imagined that their son would still go on to be involved in matters that were much more dangerous and profound than what they had ever been through or even heard in their lives!

"I found it hard to believe as well until I saw all this for myself." Eugene chuckled as he gazed lovingly at his wife. It had been so long. The memories of her features had already begun to blur in his mind and he did not have any pictures to remind himself of what she had looked like. But nothing beat seeing her in the flesh.

Martha turned to look at Leon, her eyes shining with amazement. What she heard was something only comparable to those action cartoons that she had seen some people watching back in the days. She could not equate it to reality at all.

"Do you want to come for a walk?" Eugene asked, taking Martha's hand in his.

"A walk?" Martha asked, a playful smile on her lips.

"Yes, I want to show you what our son has built for himself." Eugene's smile widened as Martha thought for a moment before nodding her head. All of what she had heard had built up a lot of excitement and wonder toward this new world. She could hardly believe that this was not Earth, but a world full of magic and wonder.

Leon watched his parents leave the room quietly before smiling to himself. Beside him, a figure made of red light outlined itself and looked down at Leon.

"The preparations have been made. It is time, Leon Cromwell." The Nexus Being said.

Leon closed his eyes and let out a sigh. He held up a hand and a fingernail broke off before rapidly reforming into a clone of himself. The clone looked at him before giving a firm nod and turning to leave.

"How long will it take?" Leon asked.

"I do not know. To purge the remnant will of a God King is not an easy task. Izeal was not a true God King, but his power was infinitely close to one. It might take years, decades, or even centuries. It all depends on you." The Nexus Being replied. "You do not need to go yourself.

You can simply split your consciousness and continue living your life as it is. It is a small task for a being of your power. The only drawback is that you will be limited to whatever power you have given your clone until all of this is over."

"I understand." Leon nodded and his eyelids fell shut. When he opened them again, he saw himself walking through the halls of the castle. He turned back and looked at the room that his clone had left. He could easily see through the walls and saw the Nexus Being place a hand on his shoulder before the two of them vanished.

'Sigh... Even all that power comes at a cost. At least, I don't need to give up everything to keep it.' He thought to himself before arriving before his room. A small smirk stretched across his face as he opened the door.

A faint, pleasing fragrance reached his nose, and the light of candles lit up the dark room. The curtains had been shut, and magic had also been used to lower the lighting even more.

"Close the door and come over here." Elena's soft voice was alluring as Leon heard it and he did as she said, closing the door behind him.

Eugene led Martha through the castle and onto the streets beyond the castle. The revived woman exhibited curiosity as she began to take in the sights. The first group of people that she met that differed from normal humans were the Beastkin. They were not actually the first non-humans that she had met.

The White Millipedes that guarded the city and castle were the first, but she did not know they were not humans. She only felt intrigued by the fact that they all had white hair.

Eugene received many greetings and flirtatious looks and words from the people that they passed by. Martha looked at him with a curious gaze and he smiled.

"I guess I've become a bit popular here since the war." Eugene chuckled. He had been an active figure in the war against the invaders and he had build something of a reputation for himself. The fact that he shared a strong resemblance with the founder and Patron God of the Cromwell Empire also did not go unnoticed by some.

The news eventually spread and he had begun to wear a mask while dealing with certain matters to avoid too much commotion. However, here in the capital city of the empire, he did not bother with the mask.

"Is that so?" Martha hummed before bursting into a laughing fit. The Eugene she knew was very reserved and always minded his business. That had made him a bit unpopular among people, but he never cared too much. It was a stark contrast to the Eugene of today who seemed to draw the attention and respect of people wherever they went.

Eventually, more varied people began to appear in Martha's eyes. She came across a couple of Beastkin that were more beast that humans, and even a few Lizardmen that had joined the Cromwell Empire in the middle of the war against the Invaders after their home had been razed and their people almost wiped out. Her eyes sparkled with delight and excitement as she watched all of this pass her by.

And all this happened under the attentive gazes of the various powerful beings who had their attention on the Cromwell Empire.
