She did not care whether or not the Murong family had this intention or not, it remained a fact that neither of them came to relay the information to Yu Tong until the rumour was spread all over the village, even Murong Si who came to look for Yu Tong could feel that something weird was going on, how come Old madam Murong and Murong Tai couldn't?

The Murong family and Second Madam Yu thought that they were too smart, they never expected that Murong Si would make a move on his own, which led to their plans being thrown into a mess. She raised her head and said, "Old Madam Murong, I am not refusing to accept responsibility. But you have to know that none of the betrothal gifts reached Ah Tong, so how could we even consider them getting engaged? If you do not believe us then you can question the villagers. At least with this trouble that she was sending his mother's way, Yu Cheng would learn how to keep his greed in check at least.

"But we have handed the gifts to Madam Yu," Old Madam Murong said to Yu Dong who casually lifted a shoulder and then said to the latter, "This has nothing to do with us. We found out about this engagement through a stroke of luck, if we didn't then Ah Tong would have found out about the engagement a day or two before. I am not blaming anyone but Ah Tong is also a victim in this scenario."

Yu Dong then splayed her hand in front of her and said, "Of course, if you want to cancel the engagement then you would have to take this matter to Second Madam Yu, who is responsible for it."

Yu Dong dared to say this because she knew that Old Madam Murong would definitely not agree to break off the engagement.
