Chapter 358 Earthrender
As the figure continued to watch for a few minutes, finally determining Xu Feng and the rest were truly not going to solve the puzzle, they were enraged.
However, they were enraged not at Xu Feng's group, but at a certain person.
With a pent-up rage, the figure quickly conjured a portal-like substance with its tail.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Soon, the portal revealed another figure who was calmly analyzing the material.
When the figure noticed the portal appearance, they were startled for a second.
"Why did you suddenly contact me, Earthrender?" Yaren raised an eyebrow, seemingly confused by the sudden contact.
Earthrender was a massive dragon-like creature, its body seemingly carved from the jagged rocks and dark, coarse scales of the Abyssal Rift, almost indistinguishable from the surrounding stone.
Its molten orange eyes burned through the gloom, and every step sent low rumbles echoing through the chasm, with a tail like a hammer of jagged rock capable of crushing anything in its path.
"You've deceived me, Yaren!" Earthrender roared angrily and proceeded to point at the scenes that depicted Xu Feng relaxing.
"You said you would bring capable people for me to test in exchange for 100 Silver Glyph Fragments. But now that I gave it to you, this is the capable people you brought me?" With each word, the angrier Earthrender became.
For the exchange, it had paid a heavy price and cost him a painstaking amount of time to construct a puzzle that catered to Xu Feng and Crimson Heart.
Yet not only did these two disregarded its effort, but they also blatantly rested after somehow correctly deducing his presence in watching them.
Yaren remained silent for a moment. Afterward, she began laughing, startling Earthrender. Explore more at empire
"What's so funny?" Earthrender slammed its tail on the ground, seemingly annoyed by Yaren's reaction. He contacted her to complain and wanted her to solve the mess.
"Sigh, didn't I warn you in advance that the man over there is quite quick on his feet? I bet you also didn't heed my advice either." Yaren shrugged her shoulders.
Meanwhile, Earthrender became silent, trying to recall her advice.
Previously, Yaren had indeed said something that it was best not to create too many scenarios in a quick session when testing Xu Feng's group. Instead, he was told to be discreet as much as possible and slowly wait for the opportunity to lure them to the lowest level.
However, his excitement overwhelmed his thoughts temporarily when he witnessed how Xu Feng managed to easily deal with the Chasm Stalker designed to determine his combat power.
"Seeing your reaction, I suppose you have been found out." Yaren mused, not finding it a bit surprising for Earthrender to be caught.
'The person was able to get baptized, so how could their perception be trash?' She thought to herself, her gaze locking at Xu Feng, who was casually lying on his back.
Although there was some suspicion, Yaren believed Xu Feng understood her quite well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been so gutsy during their interaction.
"I don't care!" Earthrender suddenly exclaimed loudly. "I want to find someone who can undertake the test so that I can leave the Abyssal Rift. Do you know how many years I have to wait until I can reopen the test?"
"Relax, Earthrender." Yaren consoled him.
"I wouldn't take your Silver Glyph Fragment for granted and leave you be." She continued, clearly unwilling to offend the latter. She might have gotten the resources she wanted, but if Earthrender really decided to go crazy, then the Abyssal Rift would truly become a forbidden zone.
With a few moves from Earthrender, those who dared to enter the Abyssal Rift would forever remain there. By then, where would Paradise Plains continuously obtain the rare resources only available at the Abyssal Rift?
And if the officials found out she was the main culprit, then she could kiss her experiment goodbye.
"Transmit me to the screen where they are." Yaren quickly suggested. "Since the cat is out of its bag, I might as well give them extensive reasons to take it seriously."
"Are you sure they will listen to you and not just rebel?" Earthrender narrowed its eyes. "Humans are petty creatures, and you are no exception. I find it hard to believe they will still submit to you after your deliberate concealment."
"Heh, you're right." Nodding, Yaren didn't deny that humans were indeed born petty. Those who aren't petty are usually the types to get taken advantage of repeatedly until shit hits them hard to make them change their mindset.
"It's going to be a bit difficult to convince them, but I have my means. I've always honored my words, otherwise you wouldn't have conducted the trade with me either."
"Hmph, so be it!"
With that decided, back at the passageway, Xu Feng who had been patiently waiting for some sort of change, finally noticed a floating orb.
'As expected…' Xu Feng inwardly exclaimed. Everything clicked once he saw the invisible orb and finally recalled what type of event was this.
The test of Earthrender's successor.
Earthrender was the true owner and controller of the Abyssal Rift.
However, with the passage of time, this true owner slowly lost interest in the Abyssal Rift.
In fact, the Abyssal Rift could have been said to be operating independently now, and the Earthrender was merely its guardian, overseeing it without interfering.
It wasn't that it couldn't interfere, but they simply chose not to, allowing the Abyssal Rift to develop by itself.
This was a major event, as whoever became the successor of Earthrender would gain it as a companion for a limited time. As the time limit drew near, they would need to pass another test determined by Earthrender. Otherwise, the Earthrender would leave them and choose a new person to accompany.
Now the problem with this event was that it shouldn't happen anytime soon.
'This should have occurred when most of the mainstream players were Tier 1, with a few being Tier 2.' Xu Feng knitted his brows, wondering if his action indirectly caused another butterfly effect.
