Chapter 359 Earthrender's Successor
The so-called successor test was merely a name, but not its literal meaning.
Passing the test didn't make one the successor of the Abyssal Rift, but rather the right to have the Earthrender as their companion.
In other words, it was a player's chance to obtain a pet, but rather than a regular pet, they were going to gain a limited edition companion who could assist them massively.
"Hello my dear contestants, and one random woman." As the orb became visible, Yaren's face was revealed, shocking both Carmen and Crimson Heart.

"The Guild Leader's deduction is actually on point?" Astonished, Carmen found Xu Feng to be even superior to a prophet.
"I can't believe this is actually a trick." Crimson Heart's reaction was somewhat different. She never expected a conductor would be so human-like in behavior that they would manipulate a competition to benefit themselves.
Wasn't Yaren an NPC and under the strict regulation of the system?
How could she possibly orchestrate all of this and use them as tools?
When Crimson Heart thought about this point, she suddenly laughed bitterly and shook her head. 'NPC gives quests and players take them in exchange for reward anyway. What Yaren did was merely bypass the normal procedure.'
After experiencing Yaren's eccentric method, she gave up trying to guess what was on Yaren's mind. Perhaps, only Xu Feng was able to guess this shrewd woman's scheme and correctly counter her.
"Heh, as expected of a baptized person. You really aren't surprised by my appearance." Yaren mused, her gazes locking on Xu Feng.
"It would be a lie to say I wasn't a bit astounded, Conductor Yaren." Xu Feng smiled in response. "The deal you made with Earthrender must have been the Silver Glyph Fragments, right?"
Startled briefly, Yaren had to reposition herself in the chair and held a disbelief expression. She squinted her eyes, seemingly wondering what was the true origin of Xu Feng.
Not many knew about the existence of Earthrender, and she only chanced upon it when she personally made the exploration trip.
"You are really surprising me every minute we interact," Yaren smirked.
Ever since the time he gave her that ridiculous response in the first test, she had thought he was somewhat interesting. And sure enough, he continued to prove himself to be unorthodox— even ruthless at times.
It was all these factors that made her appreciate him even more, given she loved this type of personality more than hypocrites or the so-called goody two shoes.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Nothing irritated her more than those who loved to play heroes, but always required assistance in the end.
"Since you figured it out, I won't need to explain further. Speak, what do you want in exchange for taking the test seriously? Earthrender here has been displeased with your lack of enthusiasm and response so far." Yaren questioned, going straight to the point.
"I wish for my guild to establish a diplomatic relationship with the Paradise Plains." Xu Feng quickly replied.
However, his quickness didn't mean Yaren was going to agree. In fact, Yaren refused almost instantaneously.
"That's out of my jurisdiction." Yaren flatly said. "A diplomatic relationship with the Paradise Plains is not something a newly established guild could accomplish. There are many guilds stronger than you, including many stronger fighters who have been rejected."
Nodding in agreement, Xu Feng naturally knew about the ins and outs regarding the political matter revolving around Paradise Plains.
"I can understand your meaning, but wouldn't my guild have something they don't have once I pass this test?"
"It can't be that you're this confident?" Slightly stunned, Yaren crossed her legs and turned to Earthrender, who had concealed its presence from Xu Feng and the rest.
"Do you think he can pass the test you set up, Earthrender?"
Earthrender was silent for a moment. 'This man guessed what I was doing despite my extra carefulness. His perception is something else.'
Shortly after, Earthrender maneuvered the mana around him and the orb started to clone itself. Now the original orb displayed Yaren whereas the duplicated orb displayed Earthrender's appearance.
"I-is that a real dragon?" Alarmed, Carmen was stunned by Earthrender's appearance.
"Its body is filled with rock, so could it be an Earth Dragon?" Crimson Heart wondered loudly. Given its name was Earthrender, it would only make sense for its element to be Earth or rock or ground, etc.
"Don't be fooled by its appearance." Xu Feng chuckled softly. "Its appearance looks like a dragon, but it's just an armadillo with some variant from the actual animal."
"A variant of armadillo?" Carmen gasped, her mouth agape.
"Yaren really didn't evaluate you wrongly." Earthrender suddenly spoke, its gaze locked on him.
"To know the species I am in an instant is not an easy thing to do. Additionally, you don't seem afraid that I might just kill you. Even if you're an immortal, I can still inflict a lot of after-effects when you revive."
"I wouldn't be afraid of you, Earthrender." Xu Feng lightly said, bowing at the same time. "Earthrender may seem fierce on the surface, and prone to anger. But other than that, you would never harm another being unless provoked or they did something against the policy you set."
Earthrender prowess was really difficult to deal with, but that only remained true if it had been following another player.
After all, it would loyally follow the player's command and assist them.
However, given Earthrender's current state which was ownerless, why would Xu Feng be afraid of him?
An Earthrender without an owner was always considered mild. Thus, everyone sought to pass its test once the original player had failed the test it set up to remain as their companion, creating a grand opportunity for many to take advantage of.
What was even beneficial was that even though the original owner failed to retain its companionship, the Earthrender still vowed to not do anything against them unless they violated its policy.
As for the policy, this remained a secret, given only the owners, regardless of present or past would know.
"Heh, you seemed to act like you know a lot about me. Very well, let me see if you are actually capable." Earthrender grinned and began deconstructing the passageway.
